Democratic Senator Tim Johnson was the incumbent defending his seat in South Dakota. The Republican Party specially targeted his seat, because South Dakota's other Senator is Tom Daschle, who was at the time the Senate Majority Leader, having become the Majority Leader because of Senator Jimi Jefford's switch from Republican to Independent and then throwing in with the Democrats in order to gain a Committee Chairmanship. [Which sounds like more of a soap opera than a soap opera!].

The Republican's and President Bush put on a full court press to try to oust Johnson..and they almost accomplished it..as you can see from the above election results, Johnson won by only 524 votes. Further, immediately after the election a scandal broke out regarding a vote buying scheme being practiced on certain Native American Reservations. While many in the Republican Party wanted Thune to contest the election on those grounds, he decided against it. When last we heard, legal proceedings were being brought against those involved in the vote buying scheme.

As can be seen, from the above, Johnson some very favorable transits just around the time of the election. Uranus was applying parallel to his Chiron...while this is not 'technically' a Cinderella Transit, for a politician it is close, because Uranus is symbolic of the Masses, the Public, Popularity and Fame. In the period leading up to the election he also help from the transit of Pluto parallel to his Chiron as well, though by the time of the election this transit was no longer active.

More importantly though...Chiron was parallel to his Jupiter,Chiron was conjunct his Sun, and Venus was making a looped transit conjunct his Chiron. Three MAGIcal Cinderella transits from Chiron are always a strong indication that one can be recognized as being 'special' and seen in the best light.

Meanwhile in the Heliocentric Dimension , Senator Johnson was having the powerful rare transit of Neptune contra-latitude to his Uranus ( long term security [Neptune] in Politics [Uranus]....and another rare Cinderella transit of Chiron parallel to his Pluto ( Remarkable, Noteworthy [Chiron] Competitiveness [Pluto])! To round it out, Johnson also had Uranus trining his Chiron in Helio Longitude as well, meaning that he was having a TRANSDIMENSIONAL transit of Uranus to Chiron.

Republican trend or no Republican trend, Johnson would have been very tough to beat this time around, unless the Republican party had been looking to field a candidate who would be having even better transits.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thune, who left his Congressional seat in order to run, as can be seen, was almost that candidate this time around...but only almost. True, in Geocentric Longitude Thune did have the MAGIcal Cindrella Transit of Chiron trining his Pluto ( and this was a looped transit)...but Chiron does not move that quickly.

Mr. Thune was also having two Super Transits from Pluto and Uranus in Declination. Pluto and Uranus were parallel to his Neptune, and contra-parallel to his Uranus.

In Helio Latitude, Mr. Thune also had the Super Political Success transit of Uranus contra-latitude his Uranus, and Jupiter parallel his Uranus. Neptune meanwhile was also contra-latitude his natal Jupiter .

Meanwhile, much closer to exact. Thune had Transiting Saturn in a Stressful and Turbulent Contra-Parallel alignment to THREE of his natal planets simultaneously...his Jupiter, his Sun and his own Saturn. In Longitude, Thune was having Saturn trine to his Chiron until it stationed right around Oct 11th. While a trine is an 'enhancement' alignment, remember...Saturn's nature is NOT GOOD, so there are NO GOOD TRANSITS FROM SATURN. This was a very close, but still INCOMPLETED transit...as that transit began to back off, the considerable resources of the Republican Party, as reflected in the transits that it was having, were brought in to try to push Thune over the hump...in fact the President himself campaigned more than once in the state for Thune. Bottom line though, THUNE HAD FEW MAGICAL TRANSITS FROM CHIRON THAT WOULD BE COMING EXACT DURING THE PERIOD OF THE ELECTION. To take a seat away from an incumbent Senator, one has to be a 'Cindrella' of a kind...and that means that one has to be having positive Chiron transits...and more than your opponent is having. In this case, the incumbent held all of the 'Chiron' cards in his hand..so he was able to squeak back into office...but as the saying goes, close only counts in playing horseshoes.

Thune, though defeated is now being looked at to run against Daschle in 2004. Having been loyal to the President, it is likely that Thune would get his backing, and that of the Republican Party, which will again help to a point. But many things change over time, especially in the world of politics. The one thing that is sure is that as can be seen above, before he does run he would be wise to check his most likely trends against those of Mr. Daschle in 2004 using the principles of Magi Astrology.
